THE BOOK OF ILLUSIONS

Paul Auster, The Book of Illusions, 2002, Faber and Faber.

This novel is very much intriguing and elegantly written. "The thin red line" might have been a bad piece of fiction in comparison. Auster's narrative resurrected my old enthusiasm for fiction, and I read it through breathlessly. Readers may find it too much emotionally charged and filled with many unrealistic events. Well, yes, it is emotionally charged, but that aspect should be something we look after within the illusionary universe of a novel like this. I bought the book one or two years ago and was half way through before I stopped reading probably because I was just busy and couldn't spare a good amount of time to finish it. Anyway I like this work and will definitely purchase Auster's other pieces.
